Theoretical Support for Community Informatics Applications
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper contributes to the development of a theory of Community Informatics by proposing a theoretical framework for the development of information systems for supporting community activities. Often, community informatics applications are adhoc systems, without adequate theoretical support. In our research we have studied and developed an approach that is theoretically sound and can be used for the analysis and design of information systems that support coordination of community activities using information technology. The emphasis of this novel approach is on people rather than on technology.

متن کاملQ: Where is the Wealth of Nations? A: In Communities
This issue of JoCI has as its lead an important article by Michael Arnold making the case for the conceptual (and thus theoretical) autonomy of a specifically " community " informatics. This elegantly and forcefully argued paper draws upon a range of sources and analytical insights from theorists not often cited in social science or information systems research all to make the case that communi...
متن کاملCommunity Informatics and Information Systems: Can They Be Better Connected?
There is an ongoing debate in Community Informatics about the need for a stronger conceptual and theoretical base in order to give the field disciplinary cohesion and direction. By investigating the body of reflective thinking in Information Systems, researchers in Community Informatics can develop a more rigorous theoretical context for their work. Information Systems can be considered as a fr...
